POLICE INTELLIGENCE.
FRIDAY.
The only case before the Court calling for report was that of a prisoner named BEBBINGTON [sic], attached to the Factory, who, having on the previous day been brought up for being in a state of drunkenness, on Wednesday afternoon, in Church-street—the Police Magistrate wished to know how he had got out from the establishment in question, as knowing the man to be a notorious drunkard, he had given strict orders he was not to be permitted outside the building, when MR. THOMPSON, the Foreman of Works, observed MR. SMYTHE [GEORGE SMYTH] had told him he (MR. S.) had let him out. The case was then remanded, and to-day it seemed MR. S. had denied the imputation, ergo, either MR. SMYTHE or MR. THOMPSON tell tarradiddles. BEBBINGTON was sentenced to 24 hours cells. (This is a Tail-to last week’s leader, and only a sequel to the TIP matter, in our columns of 19th April last).
