Ellen McGough

Evidence Type: Newspaper Report
DATE: 2 August 1845

POLICE INTELLIGENCE.

MONDAY.

ELLEN McGOUGH appeared as a victim to a suspicion of two kinds,—firstly, that she was not a free subject with respect to her person; and secondly that a bundle of wearing apparel she had with her had only come into her possession in a too “free and easy” manner. On the Bench enquiring of her if she was free, she stated herself to be so of every thing but sin, and as it seemed that the clerk at the Factory is the recording angel who keeps the books of female peccadilloes, she was directed to be forwarded thither to see how her account stood.
