POLICE INTELLIGENCE.
WEDNESDAY.
MARY McCANN—That old familiar face again was introduced to Magisterial notice, for having been found at a rather unseasonable hour of the night at her intended’s residence, beating a tattoo on the door which might have aroused the seven sleepers of Ephesus.
On the last occasion of MARY’s appearance she was discharged in consequence of her being about to enter into the holy state of Matrimony, and the plea again availed her on the present one. In reference to the present offence, she stated that she was merely calling at her future husband’s house for the purpose of bidding him good night, and was playing the serenade complained of to awake him. However much doubt there might have been that if she had not been lodged in the watch-house,
“The parting would have been such sweet sorrow,
That it might have extended until the morrow,”
beneath her lover’s roof. It was stated to be a fact that the preliminaries of the nuptials had advanced to a proclamation in one of the churches, and the Court not wishing to put any obstacles in the joining of two hearts formed for each other—discharged her to her Inamorato’s arms.
FRIDAY.
The only name on the Police List this day was that of the renowned MARY McCANN, who had been exhibiting on the previous evening, those remarkable traits in her character, which have so often secured to her the kindest attentions of the Police. MARY, after craving his Worship to forgive her this time, and if ever she offended again, then pay her all the long account standing to her credit on the Court Records—mooted the projected marriage; but it being a reasonable doubt that if she was allowed to go on “agitating” the intended bridegroom might be averse to the “Union.” She was sent to the Factory for a month, by which time the banns will be outcalled, and she will be led a blushing bride from one prison to another gaol—when and where it is hoped, her condition will be altared.
