POLICE INTELLIGENCE.
TUESDAY.
MARY BURKE (ticket of leave) was charged with having, on the previous evening, under feelings of which temperance was no distinguishing characteristic, betaken herself to the Catholic Orphan School, from which establishment she had recently been discharged, and falling in with one of the servants proceeded to an assessment of the matron’s virtues, and awarded them such a high rating, that in addition to disturbing all the somnolent orphans, and rendering them wide awake to her proficiency in the vulgar tongue, she even started INSPECTOR FOX from his tea, which he was quietly sipping in the adjoining villa of Mud Lodge. Although this functionary thought that nothing less than murder was in commission, arrival at the spot showed it to be merely a case of burking, and he, not to be idle, became a body snatcher in securing a subject for his own peculir [sic] cutting up in the morning. A night’s residence in the watch-house had exploded all the spouting of the preceeding [sic] night, and the orphan school eloquence was awarded ten days in a stone oratory at the Factory.
