Unidentified Women

Evidence Type: Newspaper Report
7 March 1837

Two females, assigned to the Rev. Mr. COWPER, were brought before the Magistrates, charged with assaulting Police Sergeant DONAGHOE, who had charge of the female watch-house, where they had been confined, on suspicion of being runaways. DONAGHOE stated that hearing a noise in the room where the females were confined, he went in and saw the two prisoners fighting, he endeavoured to part them when they both fell upon him and gave him a sound thrashing. The Magistrates committed them to the third class of the factory for twelve months for absconding, which will be in addition to their original sentence.
