POLICE INTELLIGENCE.
WEDNESDAY.
SARAH FOGARTY (Ticket-of-leave) was charged by her husband, with several infractions of her marriage vow, principally, however, by gross disobedience to his orders, and wanton inattention to his wants and desires, exemplified, as regards the first instance, in becoming most gloriously drunk, and in the second, by absenting herself from bed and board for the full space of four-and-twenty hours, a “stretch” of time no man, unless he were a good easy-going, henpecked husband, could complacently submit to. A mere drop is said to make the full cup run over, and as PERRY deposed that he had not been able, for the last three months, to get any good out of SARAH, who was ever and anon Sally-ing out, and Sal-volatalising herself with something more spirit-enervating than harts-horn, on her return to his home, he, instead of allowing her to solace herself in the downey of the four-posted, consigned her to the wooden mattress of the watch-house. Although SARAH had, like most females, made, at the marital hour, a sort of inward mental compact, between herself and her rational tastes and habits, by mumbling the species of indiscibable [sic] indistinct sound of “bey,” common to the female race on these occasions, when called on to swear allegiance to her lord and master, instead of that horrid word to women, “obey,” the point was not take into consideration by the Bench, and the Police Magistrate’s countenance was looking three months to the 3rd class, when the heart of her spouse, like Adam of old, relented towards his Rib, at one time his joy, his solace and his comfort, and craved the worthy magistrate to follow his example, to pity and forgive, and so, after a lecture on the duties of a wife, and a hint that the Factory gates were always open for the reception of such who earned admission into the hallowed precincts, was discharged.
