POLICE

TUESDAY.

SUSAN HAMMOND, (bond) charged with absconding. On Saturday evening INSPECTOR FOX received SUSAN into his establishment. On Monday evening the young lady left the elegancies of Mud Lodge to seek her own fortune in the wide world; and knowing the great weight appearances always carry, took MRS. FOX’s new parasol. This outrage committed on a brother constable put the rest of the Police force on the qui vive, and by nine o’clock HAMMOND was in the Watch House, having been apprehended by Constable HOTHAM, in Marsden-street, in that state which was strongly indicative of an overweening affection towards “Cooper’s best.” The parasol was not, however, forthcoming; and it being considered that, in some cases, borrowing and not returning amounts to larceny, HAMMOND had to employ the next six months of her life in the third class at the Factory.
