Margaret Cuddy

Evidence Type: Newspaper Report
11 October 1838

An Error in Judgment.—MARGARET CUDDY, (the notorious shoplifter, who purloined off the counter of MR GORDON, in Bridge-street, a piece of chints value 30s; of Mr ISAAC LEVY, of George-street, a piece of linen; of Mr NASH, property to the value of 12s; and of CAPTAIN BROWNE a turkey) was fully committed some time since to take her trial on three separate charges, at the Court of Quarter Sessions. She was tried on Saturday last, only on one charge, namely that of Mr NASH’s, and sentenced to the Factory for three months. We are anxious to know why this wholesale pilferer and shoplifter was not arraigned on the other charges?
