Mary Ann White

Evidence Type: Newspaper Report
24 March 1837

POLICE.

MARY ANN WHITE, assigned to Mrs. DAVIES, of George-street, was apprehended on Monday morning, between 11 and 12 o’clock, walking out of town on the Parramatta Road. Mrs. DAVIES said that the prisoner had leave to be out from 2 o’clock until 5 o’clock on Sunday afternoon, but did not return; the prisoner had frequently told her that she preferred being in the Factory to any private service. COLONEL WILSON sentenced her to six week’s confinement and hard labor in the third class of the Factory, and directed that MR. BELL should be informed of the prisoner’s predilection for his protection, in order that her reception may be made as flattering as possible.
