Bridget Eccles

Evidence Type: Newspaper Report
18 October 1833

WEDNESDAY.—BRIDGET ECCLES was charged with being found recumbent on the green sward of the Surry Hills, in a happy state of forgetfulness — On being shook by the charley, she stammered out, “I say, Jack (hiccup) I’m woundy dry, let’s have another taste (hiccup.”) The charley being a man of feeling, accommodated her, by removing her to the watch house, and supplying her liberally with the pure pellucid. Having nothing to say, only that she forgot all about it, the Bench sent her to learn sobriety at Gordon’s house of call for fourteen days.
