Evidence Type: Newspaper Report
25 November 1829
A female whose visage and whose whole person proclaimed her not to be the most sober of her sex, Mr. CONSTABLE ORR next lugged forth. This fair one he swore was a prisoner of the crown for life, MARY O’CONNOR by name. On the night previously, happening to step into a disorderly house on the Rocks, according to his wont, there he espied and took her into keeping, as the Worshipful Bench might well perceive. In vain did the woman protest she was “one more sinned against than sinning.” The inexorable Bench condemned her to six weeks’ seclusion with the third class in the Factory.
