Three runaways, two being male subjects and “lifers,” had the choice of an iron-gang given to them, whilst the third being one of the “softer sex,” because her husband having departed this life, leaving her to enjoy a single state of blessedness, which she did for full ten weeks, not without an occasional mate however to solace her widowed woes, was consigned over to the superintending guidance of the matron of the Female Factory, with another frail sister in bondage, who flatly refused to do any household work, but what she felt disposed towards, and became wonderfully saucy to her mistress; and this pretty nearly was the case with some half dozen others.
