Evidence Type: Newspaper Report
23 July 1828

MICHAEL SCALES, BRIDGET SCALES, and WILLIAM MOARNE, were brought up for judgment, having been convicted on the day previously of coining base money. The two male prisoners the Court sentenced to be transported to a penal settlement for the term of seven years each. With regard to the woman, the Court considering she had acted under the impulse of her husband, would not be so severe, nor should justice on the other hand be defeated. The Court therefore would direct her to be remanded for the opinion of his Excellency the Governor.*
