DROPS OF DRINK.—An elderly matron, verging, one would be apt to imagine, towards half a century, “or by ‘our lady three score,” was once again brought up, probably for the twentieth time within the last six months. Her appearance was that of one not disposed to let life slip soberly by. The constables this time charged her with being a vagrant, a bad character, an habitual drunkard, and a sly thief in the small way. She had not been more than three weeks out of the factory, where she had been made to spend a month, or so on a similar complaint to the present one. The Bench ordered the frail one back to her quarters for twenty-eight days.
