Behind the Factory at Parramatta, the “artillery of the giants” or Amazons is complete, for a line of concentric concretions runs across the river at the very edge of the new dam. All the shoals associated with this division of the rocks are, more or less, concretionary in structure, assuming concentrically nodular arrangements. If we again descend to the coal measures, we find, as at the Point of Wollongong, and in various parts of the Illawarra, concretions sometimes thirty feet in diameter, which are, notwithstanding this structure, still traversed by the regular stratification; as good an instance as we could well have of the fact, that this structure has been induced by motion amongst themselves of the particles of the rock since it was bedded; a phenomenon forced upon my notice by so many and such striking examples all over New South Wales, that I have prepared a memoir of considerable length on the subject.
