TRANSCRIBER’S NOTES: This convict was transported as MARY KEARY aka CLEARY, and was married prior to transportation. Her pre-transportation marriage did not prevent her from attempting to gain permission to marry fellow convict, PATRICK BERGIN per Hadlow (2) (1820) in May 1827, which was refused on the basis that MARY was already married. She may have subsequently obtained special permission or simply used the name, as if married, regardless, as she was repeatedly incarcerated under the name MARY BERGIN and its variant spellings in the years that followed.
