TRANSCRIBER’S NOTES: The surname is not clear in the original record and other sources from the same period record both McDOWELL and McDONNELL (and its variant spellings). There is no exact match for either an ELIZABETH McDOWELL or ELIZABETH McDONALL in the Minerva (1800) indents. No marriage record has been found to date that would account for the surname McDOWELL either. By the time of the 1828 Census, ELIZABETH McDOWELL was an expiree, free by servitude, but had received a ‘Colonial’ sentence of three months in the Parramatta Female Factory for committing an offence in the Colony.
