TRANSCRIBER’S NOTES: The identity of this convict is unclear, as no one on board the Grenada (3) (1825) was an exact match for this name. There was an ELIZABETH REID in the convict indents for that voyage. Note, too, there was a MARIA REEVES on the Grenada’s subsequent voyage, Grenada (4) (1827), but her sentence (life) does not align with the seven-year sentence associated with the census record for the MARY REED in question. Gaol admissions between 1827 and 1828 also record MARY REID per Grenada and note on one occasion that she had ‘absconded from her husband,’ so REED/REID may be a married name she used solely in the colony, but there were many MARYs on board the Grenada voyages. Further research required.
