TRANSCRIBER’S NOTES: There was no convict aboard the Mariner (2) (1825) with the name CATHERINE CAWFIELD, although there were a number of CATHERINES. Note that this convict also used this name when applying to marry WILLIAM SIMMS per Adamant (1821) on 13 July 1829 and the application was refused by Reverend R. CARTWRIGHT at Liverpool on the following grounds: ‘No such name as “CAWFIELD” in the Indents of the Mariner.’ There was, however, a MARY CAULFIELD per Mariner (2) (1825) who was transported for seven years and was Catholic. Further research required to positively identify this convict.
