Report on Female Factory

Evidence Type: Newspaper Report
3 September 1828

A recent regulation, made, it is said, at the instance of the Magistrates, requires that persons holding tickets-of-leave, and married either to free or bond women, whose misconduct may have caused them to be committed to the factory, shall contribute a certain weekly sum towards their support whilst in the factory. We do not know if the sum is to be proportioned to the means of the party, or to be confined to a particular quotum.
